As years go by greater innovations have been made to our vehicles. Innovations have always been very vibrant for car engines, from simple engine cylinders in the early 19th century to exquisite hybrids of the 20th century. Today car engines grow more complicated, yet more efficient in performance and fuel consumption. All innovations made recently are focused on the engines’ efficiency and minimizing toxic emissions.
First on the list is Saab’s Flex Fuel Cars whose engines can run both on 85% ethanol and petrol or a combination of both. It is seen through various tests that the car produces almost zero emissions. The implementation though may come ten years from now. Manufacturing of engines may take a while and ethanol filing stations are to be made for complete implementation. BMW on the other hand employs a mass breakthrough on engine technology as of today. Their new engines are very fuel efficient, that they consume a gallon of gasoline per 64 miles of travel. Emissions on the other hand are as low as 0.104kg per kilometer. In the United States, Mercedes has produced the E 320 BLUETEC. It is actually a diesel engine that has a urea injection system on the exhaust that neutralizes harmful emissions.
With these innovations it is sure that a better life is promised for the future. Though it is still in our hands to take these innovations and eventually put them into action.
